On March 8th, EUROCONTROL's network manager and representatives from six European countries will present the concept of free airspace routes and provide concrete examples of its implementation in Central and Southeastern Europe, at the conference, in Madrid.
Bosnia and Herzergovina Air Navigation Services (BHANSA) is an active participant in this process, and Director of the Agency, Davorin Primorac points out that in 2008 EUROCONTROL started a coordinated development and implementation of free route airspace, working closely with the civilian and military experts in the design of airspace, European states, air navigation service providers, airspace users, flight planning organizations and other relevant international bodies.
Free route airspace is a specific airspace where users can plan a route between defined input and output points of this space, with the possibility of planning via waypoints, regardless of the route network of air traffic, but taking into account the availability of airspace. "Within this airspace, flights are still under the responsibility of air traffic control" , explained Primorac.
This project of Free route airspace is part of the EU initiative "Single European Sky", aimed at improving the safety and efficiency, and increasing of the capacity throughout Europe.
Mr. Primorac points out that BiH, participating in these processes shows that is becoming an important part of air traffic in Europe.
The prospects routes will be also presented, at the meeting in Madrid and there will be analyzed the way that airspace users are gradually adapting their systems for flight planning in order to fully utilize the potential of free routes.
The workshop will end up with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for the Southeast European Cooperative Initiative (SECSI). There will be awarded the Single European Sky (SES) prizes and among the nominated project is a regional project SEAFRA, which is covering cross-border application of the concept of free route airspace in the airspace of four countries of Southeast Europe. BHANSA is the holder of this project , in front of BiH.
