BHANSA has put CIMACT system into operational use

On 31 July, 2023, BHANSA put CIMACT system into operational use in Tower and Approach Control Units in Banja Luka, Mostar and Tuzla. 

CIMACT (Civil-military air traffic management coordination tool) has been designed as a mutual coordination system for information exchange between civil and military users. CIMACT incorporates various information to provide a user with a complete overview of the airspace. It consists of a series of functionalities for traffic management (ATC), filters and cooperation tools in order to enable coordination between connected systems. CIMACT enables establishment of automated interface with EUROCONTROL’s Local and sub-regional airspace management support system (LARA).  

It is a software package which EUROCONTROL provides to ECAC member states when concluding a corresponding agreement. 

CIMACT provides airspace overview in real time, and enables decoding and unification of information obtained from different sources: flight plans and radar systems, and also contains a comprehensive package of safety aids and tools. 

CIMACT is a very flexible system containing some of the most important functionalities:

•             Decoding of different monitoring data (tracks and plots) and flight plans,

•             Creation of correlated airspace image,

•             Communication via different networks and protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, X.25, UMTS)

•             Coordination, filters 

•             Connection with different tools and databases (LARA, EAD, EDQ, WX Systems)

•             Possibility of simulation.

By introducing CIMACT system into operational usage, air traffic control officers in Tower and Approach Control Units in Mostar, Banja Luka and Tuzla, who are procedural approach air traffic controllers, now have better situational awareness of the airspace in their area of responsibility. 

In the implementation of the project, BHANSA cooperated with EUROCONTROL and Bosnia and Herzegovina Ministry of Defence, which, for the needs of the Armed Forces of BiH, have received a radar image on the BiH airspace from the radars located in Bosnia and Herzegovina.  

EUROCONTROL’s Civil-Military Cooperation Division, Mr Bart Auswers, CIMACT team coordinator, Mr Francois Cervo, Civil- Military ATM senior expert and Mr Jan Scholz, Civil-Military ATM expert, who are in charge of the implementation of LARA & CIMACT projects in EUROCONTROL member states, have been of great help during the implementation process.
